The condition
You can use it anywhere when your current grade, goal, and final exam weight are all percentages.
Working with GPA or letter grades? Convert them first with the Clamly GPA calculator. If your course uses points or marks, convert those to a percentage. Your syllabus is still the best source for weighting and rounding rules.
The logic
(target − current × (1 − weight)) ÷ weight
“Weight” is entered as a decimal in the calculation: a 30% final becomes 0.30.
Worked example
What do you need on a 30% final?
If your current grade is 82%, your target grade is 90%, and the final is worth 30%, you need 108.7% on the final. That target is not possible through the exam alone.
